According to the MET Office, we’re predicted a glorious summer this year, with temperatures expecting to reach into the 30′s.
So with the sun on its way, it’s time to break out those beach outfits and get outside in the sunshine. But it the heat gets a little much for you, here a few quick tips for coping with the summer sun:
Take a dip
Water takes heat away from the body 240 times faster that the air, so if you’re really struggling with the heat get yourself wet! Take a swim, a dip in the sea or take a cool shower, all should make you feel much better in a short amount of time.
Drink more fluids
Sweating causes your body to lose water, which will need to be replaced in order to keep your body full hydrated. Drink lots of water to keep your body cool and replace fluids lost from sweating. Try and avoid alcohol (as tempting as it is) as it will dehydrate you, which is the opposite effect of what you’re after.
breath more and sweat more!
OK so you can’t choose to sweat more, but sweat evaporation accounts for approximately 25-30% of your body’s heat loss during hot conditions. Try and keep hydrated and although you might be fairly sweaty, you should find you start to cool down considerably. Deeper breathing may also have an impact on how hot you feel, as approx. 1/3 of sweat evaporation heat loss takes place in the airways and lungs.
Use electronics
There are numerous bits of technology and electronics available to consumers in the UK, all designed to help you stay cool in the summer sun. If you’re looking to keep cool in the home or bedroom, try a ceiling fan which will both reduce temperature and increase the airflow in the house. Or you could try air conditioners, which are a little more expensive, but they’re extremely effective and will ensure you always have a comfortable temperature in your home, regardless of what it’s like outside. If you’re looking for something a little more portable, you could invest in a small, portable air conditioner, which will do the job wherever you are in the world.
