Lovely warm weather at the start of this year and I thought I will give you some tips on how to maintain your swimming pools. I am just kidding about the warm weather by the way, although it is warmer here in the UK than Edmonton, Canada.
I know it is freezing cold but it never hurts to start early so any of those expected surprises cannot delay planned pool opening.
As now the swimming pool is closed for the winter, here are some tips on what you can do to help make spring hassle free..
- Get rid of excessive water off the winter cover. Why? I am not sure, only joking, excessive water on the swimming pool covers can seriously spoil the swimming pool cover.
- Check pump room for any leakage.
- To protect from any wind damage, leave aroudn 2 to 3 inches of water on the cover.
- If the water is frozen, leave the sheets of ice as they can do your pool liner some damage, if you were to try and move it.
- Check swimming pool chemicals
- Ensure the pool water is still in pristine condition with no trace of algae.
- Check the sand quality and ensure it is in the right level.
Here is what you can do to your pool in the winter
During the winter, water tends to stay clear. I hardly ever see a pool turn green in the winter because algae does not appear, even if it does appear its build-up is extremely slow.
So to winterize the swimming pool, here is what you should do.
Run the pump after adding a dose of chlorine, you can do this once a week. Vacuum once every 4 weeks under normal circumstances, this will keep your pool winterized.
Swimming pool maintenance can help prevent swimming pool problems and avoid water problems and enable you to enjoy your pool in the spring as soon as the warmer weather arrives.
