The problem area that are focused on in this article are those cause by external factors. Perhaps the most obvious of the range of problems are those cause by defects in the genetic shaft. An example may be the hair structure of the shaft, resulting in breakage, poor hair condition and the ultimate loss of that hair. Most genetic shaft problems are normally impossible to resolve, and the effects are usually detrimental.
Problems and ailments of the hair and scalp can be quite complex and diverse and should be dealt with by a qualified Dermatologist or Trichologist. Hair conditions like Seborrhoeic eczema, Psoriasis and ringworm are all distressing complaints for the victims, although if treated promptly are not incurable. Without treatment for these conditions, it is unlikely that hair growth will resume in a healthy way.
Hair damaged externally can be as a result, of course, by self induced actions resulting in post cosmetic treatment scarring and other common signs.Stuctural damage is likely with heavily bleached hair, and weathered dry hair which has become brittle. The unwinding of the dead hair structure when the central cortex and outer cuticle become damaged is similar to the way a piece of rope uncoils at the end. This structural collapse will not stop the hair growing at the active growing root end, but it will cause extensive hair breakage and the resultant appearance of baldness.
The hair shaft may also be damaged or destroyed by professional treatment, particularly with the incorrect use of perming, straightening or colouring or poor quality hair loss products. Similarly the hair should grow back again unless it has been damaged permanently or the scalp has been scarred. If you have paid for this poor treatment it may be wise to forget the legal action, as this could result in even greater hair loss.
Hair growth rate gets slower with age and there is a noticeable loss of texture and condition as hair begins to turn grey. Melanin production in the dermal papilla is considered by some researchers to be a highly significant mechanism and thought to be involved in the progress of alopecia totalis. It is still the subject of more research but could explain why 20 to 30 year old men who become grey prematurely grey don’t appear to suffer from Androgenic Alopecia.
