This is something that does get on my nerves quite a lot of the time and it is of course how deaf people are treated differently to the normal people of the world and I have seen this countless times. The worst situation that I have seen is one where I was in hospital visiting a very close friend of mine. I knew she was deaf because I had spoken to her before which meant that I also knew how intelligent this lady was as well. So you can imagine how annoyed I was getting when everyone was treating her like she was a five year old girl. Yes I can understand that people perhaps need to raise their voiced for the sound to get through the hearing aid but there is no need to talk to her like she is an idiot.
This is not just true of this one individual case as I have seen it in other instances too this was the worst example because nearly everyone in the family were doing it too. So why do people do it, is there a proper reason behind it?
So many people think that because someone is deaf it makes them dumb too and this is something that really bothers me, people need to be educated on the matter. How must it feel to get treated like a fool is beyond me all I know is that I think that it is disgusting.
So the main thing to remember is that unless you know for a fact that the deaf person you are talking to is also suffering from a mental condition there is no way that you should be talking to them like they are stupid.
